Albion Reading Camp
An outreach ministry begun in 2014 to help children who are identified as at least one year behind reading level to catch up and gain confidence in reading comprehension. Reading and writing can be fun!
In 2017 the program was integrated with the Albion Recreation Department to provide a literacy program Monday and Wednesday mornings for eight weeks during the Peapod Summer Camp program. In 2018 we were able to send string backpacks home with 35 children ranging in age from 4 - 11 years old. Contents included writing supplies and books supported by the generosity of the James C. Kingsley Youth Fund, Rotary Charitable Fund, and the Youth Fund of the Albion Community Foundation; The Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan, Albion First Presbyterian Church, and Harrington Elementary School. Leadership was provided by Bread of Life Ministries, Albion Community Gardens, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Battle Creek, MI, Albion Recreation Department and of course, St. James' Episcopal Church.
